History of Other Dimensions of World Religions

Experience Other Dimensions of World Religions with WisdomMaps: The Future of the Past!
Perspective
Other dimensions of world religions include alternative spirituality or beliefs that have modern origins and are tangential to mainstream religion. They can be part of a wider religion but distinct from its existing denominations. While some deal with the challenges of the modern world by espousing individualism, others exist as esoteric collectives. In all, there are tens of thousands of new religious movements worldwide, with most of their adherents living in Asia and Africa. Most have only a few members, some have thousands, and a few have more than a million.
New religions often face resistance and animosity from established religions and secular organizations. In Western nations, secular and Christian movements arose during the 1970s and 1980s to oppose emerging cults. In the 1970s, the study of new religions developed in academe, and there are now numerous scholarly organizations and journals devoted to them, that view these movements in the modern contexts of secularization and globalization.
